Senior Day Victory! SMC 11 UCLA 9

April 14th, 2005

April 10, 2005 - A beautiful day in Moraga brought throngs of locals and family to watch a well played game. Trevor Self thwarted the feisty Bruins, the senior goaltender directed a stalwart defense, anchored by Seniors Adam Melville & Dave Legnitto. Seniors Everett Lebherz, Joe Viviani, David Calirossi, Steve Grosserode and Peter & Bennett Burns also played their last home game in great style. The SMC Gaels started early with quick goals from Casey Chadd off of a Lebherz pinpoint feed from the X followed by a patented Peter Burns inside roll/cross-over face dodge Shake & Bake GFG (Goal For the Gaels). The two teams traded goals for the next 58 minutes, the Gaels always maintained the lead till time expired. Trevor Self was awarded the game ball for his inspirational as well as acrobatic effort. The Gaels currently 9-4 finish the season this Friday night, 4/15 @ UC Davis.

Da Gaels Do Reno! 9-5

April 14th, 2005

April 09, 2005 - The SMC Gaels visited the Nevada Reno Wolfpack and barely escaped their sharp fangs. Goalie Andy Socha made many great saves for Nevada. SMC played a solid defensive game relying on aggressive checking from defensemen Ben Bellatini, Dave Leggnitto, Adam Melville, Jared Gagnon & Scott Boynton. SMC Goaltender Trevor “BirdMan” Self protected his aviary and spread his wings around a flurry of Wolf shots. SMC’s attack distributed the scoring for the Gaels, Peter Burns (3 goals/3 assists) - Marty Yongue (3 goals/1 assist) & Dan Foushee (1 goal). The road tested Gaels return home tomorrow Sunday 4/10 to host the UCLA Bruins.

Cal Nips Gaels, Zebras= %&#?!!

April 14th, 2005

April 01, 2005 - What can I tell you? After whittling away from a 5-1 1rst quarter defecit, the Gaels had the ball with 3 minutes to go in the contest with the score 7-6 vs the mangy bears @ Cal. SMC Midfielder/Gunner Kevin BeeCroft ripped a perfect wicked & sic bounce shot that stung the smallest upper left hand corner of the net. The ball caromed in a downward direction bouncing back into play. The referee called “No Goal” (pipe shot). The Gaels lost the momentum & the contest 8-6.

BTW - Slow motion frame by frame computer rendered examination of the video clearly shows a GOAL FOR THE GAELS!…..AAARRRRGGGHHHHHH!

Gaels Whack the Waves! 11-8

April 14th, 2005

March 25, 2005 - PU hosted the SMC Gaels on a beautiful day in SoCal. The game was nip’n'tuck throughout with SMC attackman Peter Burns scoring key GFG’s (Goals For the Gaels) down the stretch to keep SMC at least 2 points ahead each time the stubborn Waves closed the gap to one goal. SMC Goalie Trevor Self made crucial SOW’s (Saves On the Waves) all day long. PU’s Trevor Watkins had a terrific day at the face off position and his team played a tough smart game, scoring wickedly sic underhand whip shots while relying on just a few available SOS’s (Subs On the Sideline). The SMC Gaels return to NorCal tonight after a 3 for 3 game winning road trip to take on the busy GMB’s (Globetrotting Mangy Cal Bears) @ 7:00 PM Friday Night, 4/1 under the lights at the Maxwell Family Field in Berkeley.
