The Boys Bomb Biola! 11-7

April 14th, 2005

March 23, 2005 - Despite the long bus ride and the previous days game being cancelled due to inclement weather the Gaels bopped on over to the Biola campus. Saint Mary’s zinged out to an early lead but the Eagles would not go away easily and responded with two quick goals. The Gaels then turned to their go-to player, Peter Burns, who dumped in 6 goals to pick up the offense. Saint Mary’s remained in control but Biola finished with a late flurry of of goals on goalie Trevor Self. The game was helter skelter and certainly not a perfunctory win for the Gaels. We need alumni input!

March 10th, 2005

I will be purchasing trophys/awards for our year end banquet & awards ceremony ASAP. It would be great to be able to engrave and permanently affix the names of original Gael players who distinguished themselves in certain categories during their career at SMC.

It would also be great if any of you alumni could provide history/background/stories etc. of the original & subsequent teams for our web site and posterity.

Please let me know of names for the following awards:

(1) MVP
(2) Hustle Award
(3) Defenseman Award
(4) Tough Guy Award - (player who plays through injuries and excudes toughness and a threshold-some teams call this the trainer award but we don’t have an official trainer other than a part time staff trainer named Jane…I don’t think we want to call this the “Jane” award)

We are open to any ideas or suggestions, thanks, John Britton brittski@pacbell.net

Gaels Fall To Claremont - Face Dominican this Saturday

March 4th, 2005

A hard fought game started with the Cougars jumping out to a 5-1 1rst quarter lead. Tim Thatcher led Claremont with 5 goals in the game. Both goaltenders made critical saves, Landon Gillans stopping tough shots for Claremont while Trevor Self kept the Gaels in the contest with brilliant saves down to the wire. The Gaels did not give up, patiently shaving the lead down to 1 goal with 2:36 left in regulation while close defenseman Dave Legnitto applied tough pressure to Claremont’s attack. Joe Viviani controlled and converted the last 2 face offs with a nifty assist to Dan Foushee to send the game to overtime. Chaton Arkin tallied the game winner for Claremont from the crease on a nice assist on the 1rst possession in OT. A tough loss for the SMC Gaels who played courageously throughout the last 3 quarters. SMC’s Burns Brothers take on Dominican next week while gearing up for big rival the Broncos from Santa Clara at home on March 12.
